The highs and lows
Everything in between
The discussion of weather
And its new extremes
Led to inconsistencies throughout the week
From ocean sides, to mountain peaks

Within the valley
Suburban life
Lies people, and animals,
who equally reside
In an environment that
Attracts too much heat
And is damaged by the amount of concrete

I had spent the week prior
Looking for surfers
Visiting the ocean,
And looking for choices
I would send them a text
And they wouldn’t reply
And I would try and try and try and try

I had finally found someone,
His name is Colin
I had coincidentally met him
In front of his apartment
But he hadn’t responded until Sunday night
And by that point I had made up my mind

The previous Friday, I had spoken to Cheryl
My newest subject who I had found in an hour
She is friends with my old next door neighbors
One of whom happened to be named Taylor

Cheryl was sweet,
She volunteers
She hauls horses,
And we were set to meet
Until she asked to reschedule to
Wednesday instead
But gave me the option to meet with her friend

Her friend’s name is Tita
And we were supposed to talk Tuesday
Until something came up
And she asked to meet the next day
(The middle of the week!)
But how do you photograph
And do a visual piece
When the subjects at hand
Aren’t even free to speak

So we Zoomed Tuesday night
We planned to meet Wednesday
And I arrived at her barn
And began shooting away
Met her prized horses, and other animals too
And got to learn more about her rehab and rescue

The photos were challenging
Due to the lighting
The captions were looming
Like hypothetical rain
How do you address the effect of climate change
When it’s just a regular, sunny March day

Deadlines and deadlines
Sincere concentration
A quarter past nine
Sleep deprivation
Captions and photos
Teamwork and creation
Slack channels are busy
New friendly faces

Learning to be focused
Learning to be poised
Learning to let go
Learning to enjoy
The ebb and flow of
Feeling stressed
From working hard
To doing my best
